Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski have won world championships, skated for gold medals and reported from the front lines of the Oscars, the Kentucky Derby and the Olympics, but nothing has been more competitive than their time on Celebrity Family Feud. The former-figure-skaters-turned-fashion-commentators are one of many famous duos to compete on Celebrity Family Feud this season. But the most difficult part of the experience wasn’t choosing the family members for their teams, picking the right answers or even winning. It was standing across the room from each other—something foreign for the friends after spending more than five years next to each other, hip to hip, on NBC.
“We have to stand across from each other, which is very awkward for both of us. We kept making side eye at one other,” Weir tells SheKnows. Lipinski adds, “Obviously, we’re teammates and always on the same team. So it’s always strange when they separate us. We’re also notoriously bad at playing games, so it was nice to see him across the way and give each other looks of encouragement.”
It’s been more than a year since Weir and Lipinski last commentated at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, but fans of the two might not have to wait much longer for Weir and Lipinski to return to their screens. The two tease that they have “something in the works”, whether that’s a new talk show or something else. “I can’t really talk about what we’re doing right now, but we have something in the works that could be fun,” Lipinski says. Weir adds, “Let’s just say we’re working on things. Tara and I have worked very hard, and we love being together when we work and doing things as a team.”

If it is a talk show, Weir and Lipinski have agreed on the name: “We’re simple people. Just Tara and Johnny,” Weir says.
As for the first time they met, it was when they both commentated at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014. They were supposed to do separate broadcasts, but somehow convinced NBC to do it together. “We were waiting for our tapings and were like, ‘Why don’t we just do this together?’It’ll fill our time a lot more efficiently.’” Weir says. “We were lucky that NBC went out on a limb.”
Though the two have only been friends for five years, it feels like they’ve known each other for their entire lives. “It’s one of those soulmate situations. Like we were meant to be friends,” Lipinski says. Weir adds, “We both come from such a cutthroat world that we don’t come by friends easily. So to have a partner in crime is awesome.”
