We’re definitely living in a new age of royals where straying from tradition is becoming more common. Prince William disapproves of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s keeping Archie’s life private. The future king and Kate Middleton have a made a concerted effort to follow tradition, allowing their children to be in the spotlight — for better or worse. But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are paving their own path, which means keeping their 2-month-old son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s life is private as they can.
Prince Harry and Markle have been setting themselves apart from the rest of the royal family. The most recent demonstration was at baby Archie’s christening, which was held at a private, family-only affair at St. George’s Chapel. The couple weren’t particularly keen on inviting the press to the actual xeremony and have been making an effort to balance their royal duty with public expectation. “The queen accepted Harry and Meghan’s decision to keep the event private,” asource told Us Weekly. But not every member of the royal family was all for the decision.

“William thinks his brother is going overboard keeping Archie out of the spotlight,” the insider continued. The source also shared that Prince William partially “blames Meghan” for these decisions. Still, both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did their part, attending the private ceremony and appearing in the official portrait. It’s clear, however, that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are straying from the tradition Prince William and Middleton have followed for their three children, Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 1, who often been seen in the spotlight.
Part of Prince Harry and Markle’s decision centers on wanting to give their son a balanced, normal life ,while also fulfilling the royal duties asked of them. Princess Diana, Prince William and Prince Harry’s late mother, completely transformed the monarchy by giving her sons’ as normal an upbringing as possible.. It seems the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are following the same path — by paving a similar road for themselves.
