It’s over. Matt Lauer and wife Annette Roque officially divorced after 20 years of marriage. According to People, Roque filed for divorce on Tuesday, July 9, in Suffolk County, New York. The official filing came two years after the couple’s separation in 2017. “The case, which is an uncontested matrimonial, was filed on July 9th in State Supreme Court in Suffolk County, New York and is awaiting judicial review of the agreement,” Lucian Chalfen, director of public information for the New York State Unified Court System, told People. “Upon a judge’s signature, it will be sent to the court clerk’s office to be entered. The process could take up to a few months.”
In regards to the divorce, Roque’s attorney, John Teitler, also told People, “The matter has been settled.” People reported in December 2017 that the former Today host and his wife had stopped wearing their wedding rings, with Lauer “fighting to save the marriage.” “He doesn’t want a divorce,” a source said at the time. “Both of them, their first thought is their children.”
The couple’s separation came a month after Laeur was fired from NBC (the network Today is on, as well as Dateline, another show Lauer hosted) after he was accused of sexual harassment and assault by multiple women in reports by Variety and The New York Times. After he was fired, People reported that Lauer had been unfaithful to his wife throughout their 20-year marriage. The couple wed in 1998 after a blind date. Lauer had been previously married to TV producer Nancy Alspaugh from 1981 to 1988.
“He regularly cheated on his wife,” People’s source said at the time. “Everyone knew. His wife lives in the Hamptons and he lives in the city, but we never heard he made unwanted moves.” The source, a former Today staffer, continued, “Everyone on staff knew he cheated regularly on his wife.”

The couple share three children together. Sons Jack Matthew, 18, and Thijs, 12, and daughter Romy, 15.
