It’s the royal family moment we’ve all been waiting for — Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have returned to Wimbledon together, repeating their first-ever joint outing (without Prince William and Prince Harry) that took place at the tennis tournament last year. This year, the royal sisters-in-law enjoyed a moms’ day out on Saturday to cheer on Meghan’s bestie Serena Williams. Unfortunately, Williams lost the Ladies Singles Final to Romania’s Simona Halep but, seated in the Royal Box on Centre Court, Kate and Meghan seemed to make the most of the rare afternoon spent in each other’s company.
Even more fun? The ladies may have left William and Harry at home, but they weren’t entirely on their own. Kate’s sister, Pippa Middleton, turned the duo into a trio of sisters, marking the first time all three women made a public appearance together. Both Kensington Palace and Sussex Royal, the official Instagram of Meghan and Harry, shared photos of the women during their girls’ day date.
“Today, the Duchess of Sussex accompanied The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) to the Ladies’ Singles @Wimbledon final,” Sussex Royal captioned a photo of Kate and Meghan laughing as they watched the action on court, adding, “Congratulations to everyone who participated and helped make this such an iconic sporting event.”

Ahead of the match, Kate met junior players Kamilla Bartone, Oksana Selekhmeteva, Polina Kudermetova, and Giulia Morlet at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club — which, naturally, falls under her purview as a patron. It’s also presumably one of the reasons Kate and Meghan arrived at the tournament separately, another reason being they no longer live at the same estate (Kate and William are still at Kensington Palace, while Meghan and Harry moved to Windsor earlier in the year).
The duchesses’ return to Wimbledon is the latest in a growing number of instances in which the women seem to be supporting each other, despite what British tabloids would have us all believe. Both women attended a charity polo match earlier this week alongside their husbands and all the royal kiddos: Kate and Williams’ Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and Harry and Meghan’s firstborn child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Plus, Kate and Will were noticeably present in photos taken at baby Archie’s christening.
It’s nice to see the women rising above the negative speculation and simply having a little well-deserved fun together. After today, their royal responsibilities will once again take them in different directions, with Kate returning to Wimbledon on Sunday and Meghan joining Harry on the red carpet for the premiere of Disney’s new live-action Lion King.
