In wake of the backlash she’s received for her and her boyfriend’s 22-year age difference, Leonardo DiCaprio‘s girlfriend Camila Morrone responded to claims she’s a “gold digger.” Morrone — a 22-year-old model from Argentina — has been dating DiCaprio since December 2017. This week, she took to Instagram to address criticism she’s received for her relationship and claims that she’s only dating DiCaprio because of his money.
Morrone’s response came after she shared a photo of actors Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart, who also had a significant age difference of 25 years when they were married. “A love like this,” Morrone captioned the photo. Because of Bacall and Bogart’s similar situation to Morrone and DiCaprio, the photo led to criticism from commenters who believe Morrone is in the relationship for money, while DiCaprio is in it for a younger woman.
“Just look at the last 20 girls he has dated, same scenario over and over, he ages but his girlfriends stay the same age, not normal!!!!” one commenter wrote. “Life experiences and expectations with such a large age group is impossible to match…..typically the elder is in it for sex and the younger for money and fame.” Another added, “You only have a couple more years before he dumps you girl! Collect your bag 😍” One more commenter wrote, “Lol yeah that’s her icon because Lauren liked her men 25 years older, famous and ultra rich just like Camila likes her Leonardo.”

In response to the criticism, Morrone took to her Instagram to urge her followers to be more kind. “I just read some of the comments on my Instagram and, my God, people are so mean and, like, full of anger with people that they know nothing about,” Morrone said in a video, per Us Weekly. “Uh, I guess I just hope on this Friday that people learn to, uh, live with a little less hatred and place their time and interest elsewhere.” She continued, “Because living without hatred feels pretty good.”
According to Us Weekly, DiCaprio and Morrone have been romantically involved since December 2017, but it wasn’t until August 2018 that their relationship became serious, with DiCaprio even thinking of proposing to his 22-year-old girlfriend. “They’re very in love and serious… They’ve talked about getting engaged,” a source told Us Weekly, noting that the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star has “never loved a girl like this.” DiCaprio has previously dated models Nina Agdal and Erin Heatherton, who were in their 20s at the time of their relationships.
Reminder: DiCaprio and Morrone’s relationship is their own business, and no one knows what it’s like between them except for them. So let’s stop making assumptions about what their motives are for the relationship, and leave them be. They seem happy and in love, and that outweighs everything else.
