Don’t start drama, won’t be any drama! Instead of feeding any negativity, Miranda Lambert responded to a troll who said her marriage to Brendan McLoughlin “won’t last.” But instead of shade, the country singer served up some cheeky, Southern sass. While Lambert could have clapped back at the critical fan in an equally critical way, she instead chose a different route: humor.
It goes without saying that Lambert and McLoughlin have had to learn to weather plenty of outside noise regarding their surprise union. After meeting last fall during her performance on Good Morning America (he was a police officer on assignment at the time), their whirlwind romance culminated in a secret wedding this January. The internet has had plenty of thoughts.
This instance of fan feedback went down on Sunday, Aug. 4, after Lambert shared a photo of her New York husband frying her up a batch of buttermilk chicken. She kept the caption simple, quoting her hit single “Locomotive”: “I’m sweet tea sippin’ on the front porch sittin’ while my hubby fries chicken and I’m pickin’ these straaangs.” Cute, right? And yet, one particularly pessimistic fan felt the need to cut down Lambert’s marriage to McLoughlin, commenting, “Won’t last.” But where they went low, Lambert went high. In response, she cleverly kept the focus on the Southern-fried food. “Sure won’t! I’m gonna eat every piece of it! Can’t waste chicken!”

Clearly, Lambert isn’t letting the naysayers affect her outlook on life with McLoughlin. The couple, who split their time between Nashville and New York, seems to be on solid footing — despite near-constant rumors to the contrary. In May, a representative for Lambert issued a statement to USA Today insisting tabloid reports of trouble in the marriage were “completely made up” and that Lambert and McLoughlin are “happy and together.”
The couple is currently spending plenty of quality time together, as McLoughlin is taking a leave of absence from the New York Police Department. The NYPD confirmed that McLoughlin was taking some time off, explaining that leaves of absence can occur for various reasons. As for McLoughlin, the timing seems intentional as Lambert will be heading out for her “Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars” tour in September.
We see roadie life (and more fried chicken) in this couple’s near future.
