Chris Harrison Says This Bachelorette Contestant Won’t Be the Next Bachelor

It may be Bachelor in Paradise season, but Bachelor Nation is still awaiting the answer to one very important question: Who will be the nation’s next Bachelor?! Unfortunately, Chris Harrison says Tyler Cameron won’t be the Bachelor 2020, so that knocks out an easy fan favorite. To be fair, Chris’s reasoning isn’t terrible. The Tyler we saw on Hannah Brown‘s season of The Bachelorette may not be the same Tyler we’re working with now, and fans are still trying to process his recent date with supermodel Gigi Hadid. (Excuse us: two recent dates with Gigi Hadid.) Apparently, Chris has similar concerns that Tyler may not be looking for long-term love at the moment. And given that that’s kind of what The Bachelor is all about, it makes Tyler a not-great fit for the role.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Chris broke down his reaction to the recent news around Tyler, and what it means for his prospects in Bachelor Nation. “If Tyler is bouncing around from girl to girl and loving the life and enjoying the limelight — which, by the way, good on him. That’s fine. If that’s what you want to do right now, I don’t blame him,” the Bachelor host shared. “He’s probably enjoying life really, really well — but that’s not someone we’re going to want to have as our Bachelor or Bachelorette […]  it’s about sincerity. It’s about where you are in your life. And if that’s where he is in his life, then he’s not the guy for us.”

According to Chris, this kind of post-show fallout is exactly why the show usually waits a few months before picking their next Bachelor — no matter how aggressively fans may clamor for one contestant or another at the time the previous finale rolls around. “Let’s see how these guys react. Let’s see who really is sincere at the end of the day, because we do have a couple of months before we have to start production and really get into this, so we have time,” Chris proposes. Obviously, no one wants another Jed Wyatt situation on their hands — but Paradise or no, we see no reason why Mike Johnson can’t be appointed ASAP.
