Long live the Queen – Queen Olivia Colman, that is. The Crown season 3 has an official premiere date and the Netflix announcement video has us so excited. Colman, who won last year’s Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite, will carry the role of Queen Elizabeth II, taking over for Claire Foy who portrayed the Queen for two consecutive seasons.
The streaming giant, Netflix, announced this morning that the third season of the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning period drama would return November 17. Colman will be joined by new additions Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret. The two actors are taking over the roles previously played by Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby from seasons 1 and 2.
This next chapter in the reign of Queen Elizabeth II will cover the decade between the mid 1960s to the ’70s and will see a growing Prince Charles, played by Josh O’Connor. For royal and European history fans, the next two series will be a treat as the next installment could begin with anything from Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret photographed doing water sports by the paparazzi (July 1964), or the Queen’s visit to Prince Edward Island (October 1964), and another option being her appearance at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London (November 1964), according to Cosmopolitan.
Fans won’t have to wait long after the third season for the fourth to come along, as the new cast has signed on for two season of The Crown. The fourth installment will cover the time when Margaret Thatcher served as Prime Minister and will finally introduce Princess Diana. Olivia Colman, who also recently earned an Emmy nomination for her work on the show Fleabag, seems poised to rule the next season of The Crown as her loyal subjects eagerly await the premiere.
