On top of all the amazing shows returning and new series premiering, The Morning Show is at the top of our list. Now, the full trailer has dropped, and we’re here for the drama. Starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, The Morning Show trailer navigates #MeToo and the new world of news. The series comes from Apple TV and is one of the platform’s highest profile new series coming to the small screen.
The series dropped a first teaser just last week, featuring snippets of dialogue in voice over from Aniston, Witherspoon and Steve Carrell. According to the show’s official description, The Morning Show tackles “the high-stakes world of morning news and the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning.”
Frankly, it looks ready to deal with the current conversation surrounding #MeToo, as Carrell’s character — who plays Aniston’s cohost on the show — is fired following “allegations.” Director Mimi Leder has been very transparent, addressing the cultural conversation head-on through the lens of the show. The filmmaker previously told Entertainment Weekly, the show “deals with the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements and women in power.”
During an appearance at an Apple event in March, Aniston said of the series, “Through the prism of those under-slept, over-adrenalized people in front of and behind the camera, we take an honest look at the complex relationships between women and men in the workplace, and we engage in the conversation people are a little too afraid to have unless they’re behind closed doors.” The show will be told through the lens of Aniston and Witherspoon’s characters as they navigate the news room and the shifting conversation in the industry at large.
The series also stars Mark Duplass, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and is written by Kerry Ehrin of Bates Motel fame. While no date has been announced, The Morning Show will premiere this fall exclusively on Apple TV+, Apple’s original video subscription service.
