How Reese Witherspoon, Rihanna and Other Celebs Are Helping Hurricane Dorian Victims

It has been 24 hours since Hurricane Dorian tore through the Bahamas and created a humanitarian crisis. Now, Reese Witherspoon urges support for the Bahamian people affected by the devastation. In a post to her Instagram this morning, the Big Little Lies star and highest-paid actress of 2019 shared a beautiful photo of one of her children walking on the island. She mentioned all the memories she’s had of watching her family enjoy the island nation and the “most loving Bahamian people.”

But with the death toll rising in the Bahamas, it will take countless resources to help survivors get back on their feet. Witherspoon’s post urges her fans to open their “huge hearts” and “pray for these families, donate if you can and support any relief efforts.” She tags World Central Kitchen and the Abaco Relief Fund as good options.

Witherspoon is just one of countless celebrities opening their hearts and using their social media platforms to help the residents of the Bahamas. Singer Rihanna (who is apparently a secret friend of Meghan Markle’s!) dropped a tweet on September 2 that her charity, The Clara Lionel Foundation, is working towards finding the best route to provide aid and that “it breaks [her] heart to see the complete devastation” the hurricane has brought. Rihanna herself is from the Caribbean island of Barbados.

Rapper Ludacris will also donate the proceeds from his LudaDayWeekend event over Labor Day weekend to Bahamian relief. He posted on Instagram that the proceeds were over $100,000.

Even if you can only contribute $5, every bit helps in a time of crisis. There are countless organizations to provide relief, and you can find a full list of groups here.
