Kristen Bell & Idina Menzel Are Back in Arendelle With a New ‘Frozen 2’ Trailer

Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel are back in an intense trailer for Frozen 2, the much anticipated and long awaited sequel to the worldwide smash from Disney. In case you forgot the plot of Frozen or didn’t spend the entirety of 2013 humming “Let It Go,” let us refresh you.

Based on the Hans Christian Anderson story “The Snow Queen,” two sisters, Elsa (Menzel) and Anna (Bell) must work together to stop a perpetual winter in the town of Arendelle caused by Elsa’s uncontrollable ice powers. In the sequel, Elsa finds herself called by a mysterious voice that leads the pair into an enchanted forest.

Back in February, a teaser trailer was released, and a longer official trailer dropped back in June, though neither gave away any story elements. Now, an “epic” story has been revealed, involving Anna and Elsa’s parents. Their father discovered a magical forest as a child, but after an unknown battle took place, the forest disappeared, not allowing anyone to go “in or out.” (Their late mother, Queen Aduna, will be voiced by Evan Rachel Wood; King Agnarr will be voiced by Alfred Molina.)

Of course, Elsa, perpetually distracted by her past and her interest in her magical abilities, is drawn to the magical forest. With Arendelle unsafe, Anna and Elsa look to enter the forest, meeting a host of new characters, including the previously announced Sterling K. Brown as Lieutenant Mattias.

Upon release in 2013, Frozen was a juggernaut, amassing over $1 billion in revenue, topping the music charts with the aforementioned “Let It Go” and inspiring everything from merchandise to an upcoming Broadway musical. It also secured two Academy Awards, for Best Animated Feature and Best Song (one guess on what that was).

At the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, last month, several clips from Frozen 2 were shown, including the song “Into the Unknown.” Written by “Let It Go” writers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, “Into the Unknown” is a completely different tune, but just as worthy of belting out as its predecessor. On top of that, the trailer also gives us our first look at Elsa’s new gecko friend, Bruni, who looks utterly darling. And there’s plenty of Olaf (voiced by Josh Gad) to go around. Outside of that great Go Pro–style shot in the trailer, he’ll be getting a new song of his own in this movie that’s just as cute as “In Summer.”

Whether you believe Frozen 2 is a chance at quick cash for Disney or not, there’s no denying the level of talent on display and the impact this new movie will have on a generation of fans raised on Frozen. The new trailer gives us new characters to root for and more of that sisterly relationship we’re still in love with. See you guys at the movies in November!

Frozen 2 hits theaters November 22nd.
