We all have nostalgia for old movies, and today it’s at an all-time high. To sum up how we’re feeling, we need look no further than one of Hollywood’s most down-to-earth stars. In fact, Reese Witherspoon‘s reaction to Jurassic World 3‘s throwback casting news will likely have you saying, “Same.” Of course, we’re referring to the oh-so-thrilling revelation that original Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum are coming back for another round.
Dern spilled the scoop on Tuesday at a screening of Battle at Big Rock, a short film by Colin Trevorrow. Sound familiar? Trevorrow was the director of 2015’s Jurassic World and will direct and produce the third installment in the rebooted franchise. So, the fact that Dern confirmed she’ll be reprising her role as Dr. Ellie Sattler (last seen in 2001’s Jurassic Park III) is legit — she even cemented the news in an Instagram post. Also returning will be Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, also last seen in the 2001 film as well, and Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, last seen in 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park. According to Trevorrow, all three will be returning in “major roles.”
Obviously, this is enough to make any fan flip, and that apparently includes Witherspoon. “I love every #JurassicWorld movie but now THIS?!? @LauraDern, #SamNeill, @JeffGoldblum are back! Can I buy tix now?” gushed Witherspoon, who starred alongside Dern in HBO’s Big Little Lies.

One more morsel of info that’s sure to send super-fans like Witherspoon through the roof? Dern, Neill and Goldblum aren’t the only OG Jurassic Park‘ers involved in the next film of the franchise. Steven Spielberg — who directed the original 1993 movie and 1997’s The Lost World, and executive produced 2001’s Jurassic Park III — will serve as an executive producer alongside Trevorrow for Jurassic World 3. Granted, this isn’t a terribly huge surprise since he acted as EP for 2015’s Jurassic World and 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Still, this will be his first film reuniting with the cast from the originals.
The only downside to this news is the fact that fans will have to wait until next year to see how Dr. Sattler, Dr. Grant and Dr. Malcolm interact with Chris Pratt‘s Owen and Bryce Dallas Howard‘s Claire. Universal Studios announced last February that the third installment is underway, with a release date of June 11, 2021.
