Could Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Really Be Moving to Canada?

Could Meghan Markle be making a return to North America? It seems possible — if reports are any indication, Markle and husband Prince Harry are considering a move to Canada.

As you may recall, Markle is no stranger to Canada — she spend years there while filming Suits in Toronto. Of course, a few things have changed since her days on the hit show — she became a wife, a mother and a royal — but according to a source, the possibility of a return is very much on table.

“Meghan and Harry have considered moving to Canada, as it’s part of the Commonwealth,” the source told Us Weekly. “Meghan and Harry are considering [the move] for the future.”

The source added that Markle struggled to adjust to life at Kensington Palace and prefers a quieter lifestyle. “The cottage [the couple has in the countryside] is much more private,” the source said of the couple’s Frogmore Cottage. “[Meghan] really likes living in Windsor. It’s much less complicated to have friends visit and feels less claustrophobic than Kensington Palace.”

Could this desire for more privacy and a quiet lifestyle be behind the couple’s consideration of a move to Canada? Perhaps — this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Markle prefers to stay out of the spotlight.

Prince Harry has been vocal about how British media’s treatment of his wife has affected her wellbeing — and he’s taking legal action. “I have been a silent witness to her private suffering for too long,” he said in a statement. “To stand back and do nothing would be contrary to everything we believe in. There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behavior, because it destroys people and destroys lives. Put simply, it is bullying, which scares and silences people. We all know this isn’t acceptable, at any level. We won’t and can’t believe in a world where there is no accountability for this … I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”

For the royal couple, a move to Canada could represent the chance to give their son, Archie, a “normal life” away from the demands of royalty. “[Prince Harry and Markle] made the decision to have no live-in staff at Frogmore Cottage,” a source told Us Weekly. “So while they do have a housekeeper and nanny on weekdays, evenings and weekends are for themselves. It’s all part of wanting the most normal family environment for Archie.”
