Meghan Markle Plants a Sweet Kiss on Archie’s Forehead in Never-Before-Seen Footage

If you’re anything like us, this royal mom and son moment just might melt your heart. In never-before-seen footage from ITV’s upcoming Harry & Meghan: An African Journey documentary, Meghan Markle plants a kiss on baby Archie’s forehead. And, bonus, proud papa Prince Harry is holding the couple’s son in his arms during the oh-so-sweet exchange.

The glimpse into the Sussex family’s travels came by way of a video that dropped Tuesday to promote the special, which is set to air on October 20. If the scene feels vaguely familiar, it’s likely because the meeting that followed — one between Prince Harry, Meghan, baby Archie, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe — made plenty of headlines. Photos from that sit-down went viral, particularly when baby Archie was a “flirt” towards Tutu-Gxashe (pretty smooth for the then-4-month-old’s first official royal engagement).

But the intimate instant Meghan gave Archie a kiss took place behind the scenes. As the family moment is shown in the special’s promotional video, documentarian Tom Bradby can be heard saying, “It was a journey, but not always the one I was expecting. The story of their time in Africa was a passion for their work, a private happiness and also a world of pressure and pain behind their brave faces.”

Despite the intense scrutiny the Sussex family faced as they took their first royal tour together, they certainly seemed to make the best of it. That includes baby Archie, who scored more than one heartwarming forehead kiss during his time in Africa. On Sept. 25, the Duke and Duchess shared a photo on Instagram of Archbishop Tutu doing just that. “Thank you, Archbishop Tutu, for your incredibly warm hospitality, Archie loved meeting you!” they captioned the iconic snapshot.

Although the public usually isn’t privy to such private royal family moments, it seems safe to say the special will share a more intimate side of the Sussexes.

Harry & Meghan: An African Journey premieres on ITV on Sunday, October 20, at 4 p.m. EST.
