Serena Williams Opens Up About Her ‘Opinionated’ Daughter, BFF Meghan Markle, and New Fashion Line

This is proof Serena Williams can do absolutely anything. Aside from being a tennis legend, a mother, an investor and a passionate advocate for maternal health, Williams is now a bona fide fashion designer. The bottom line? Williams is a boss.

In a recent interview with Extra, Williams opened up about bringing that boss mentality into her fashion line and how it’s affected her daughter Alexis Olympia. “I was back there telling people, you know, ‘just be more natural, give me more energy’ and I’m like, ‘wait, am I a director now?’,” the tennis star shared.

It appears calling the shots runs is in Williams’ blood, her toddler is already showing a similar take-charge attitude. “She’s definitely more opinionated now,” Williams said of her two-year-old daughter. “But she’s learning boundaries. She’s learning rules.”

While Williams’ step into the fashion world may not seem like a totally expected turn for an athlete, she’s actually been bringing her style chops to the tennis court for years. “I design most of the stuff that I wear on the court,” she revealed. “I went to fashion school somewhere in between winning Wimbledon and U.S. Open, so this is something that I actually know about.”

Um, way to casually mention that you went to fashion school while completely dominating the tennis world! Once again, this woman can do absolutely anything — even dress a royal. Williams, who counts Meghan Markle as one of her closest friends, opened up about dressing the Duchess of Sussex.

“We have a lot of really good pieces for her,” Williams said of Markle. “I don’t ever pressure her to wear it, I just want her to look comfortable and look great.”

Mission accomplished, Serena!
