Think you hate working out? Well, Amy Schumer tried to sue her fitness trainer over hard workouts, so she probably has you beat on that front. As hilarious as this sounds, it’s true Schumer and her trainer, AJ Fisher, confirmed as much during this week’s season 4 finale of Schumer’s 3 Girls, 1 Keith podcast. The women are still clearly on speaking terms, so it stands to reason Schumer’s legal threats about making her break a sweat were all in good fun.
One important takeaway from the health-centered episode proved to be that adopting a healthier lifestyle is an inherently imperfect (and occasionally comical) journey. Schumer readily admits that she pushed back bigtime during the process. “Now AJ, our workouts were so hard that I threatened you,” Schumer admitted, with Fisher confirming “there was an official cease and desist letter.” You might be dubious, but Fisher ended up with the documentation to back up this chain-of-events.
Fisher elaborated, “Amy told me after several of our sessions, ‘You will be hearing from my lawyer,’ without even saying bye. And then when I finally heard from her lawyer, I opened the letter and I actually got goosebumps — I had a moment of, was she serious? Is my career totally over?”

You need more details, obviously. Don’t worry; Schumer shed further light on the situation, saying, “I did have my lawyer, Isaac Dunham, send her a cease and desist. And this is the guy I bought bench ads for without his permission. So, his face was on benches for several months. He said, ‘We are the attorneys for Amy Schumer, an internationally known actress, comedian and high-profile public figure. It has come to our attention that while Ms. Schumer has engaged you to perform simple physical training for her, you have instead forced Ms. Schumer to perform extreme and unduly punishing physical exercises well outside the bounds of normal physical training.’ I mean, it goes on and on.”
As you’ve probably guessed by now, Schumer dropped her “case” against Fisher. It was all in jest, and they’ve even gone on to continue working together. But that’s not to say that Schumer loves working out anymore now than she did at the onset of her fitness journey. During the podcast, celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak offered up a little laugh-out-loud anecdote proving Schumer’s fitness ethic remains intact.
“Last time I was in New York, I came to visit you and Chris [Fischer, Schumer’s husband], and you said, ‘Let’s go get some steps,'” Pasternak recounted to Schumer. And hey, that sounds promising, right? But then Pasternak added, “And we walked to an ice cream shop.”
