Actors have been known to go to great lengths for their craft, often dramatically altering their appearance. If you ask Salma Hayek — technically Salma Hayek Pinault since marrying French billionaire François-Henri Pinault in 2009 — about that, she has a few things to say. We don’t have to tell you that Hayek is stunning as is, but in an attempt to get more into character for her upcoming flick Like a Boss, she recently did something she’s never done before. Hayek didn’t go under the knife, but she did go under the needle — sort of — and, well, her first time getting her lips “done” will likely be her last based on her comical retelling of events.
The actress is set to play ultimate cosmetics entrepreneur Claire Luna in the upcoming comedy Like a Boss, and she really wanted to do right by the role, telling InStyle that she wanted to pump up the character a bit (literally and figuratively).
“At first, the part was a very straightforward, ambitious businesswoman,” Hayek explained, adding, “It was fun to work with Miguel [Arteta, director] and the writers to create an actually crazy character.”
To that end, Hayek looked into cosmetic treatments to get the overdone vibe she was shooting for. “First, I wanted to do Botox and inject my lips, which I’ve never done,” she shared, elaborating that her shooting scheduled ultimately prohibited the longer lasting effects of Botox. So, fillers it was. The problem with those? She despises needles.
“My friend [dermatologist] Dr. [Maurice] Dray said, ‘I don’t know if you’re going to be happy because it’s going to hurt super bad.’ I said, ‘Well, let’s give it a try,'” Hayek recounted. “He put the first needle in my mouth, and I immediately said, ‘No! Forget it! I’m done!’ So instead it became, ‘How do I make it look like I have lip injections?’ And we got these huge teeth.”

As for Hayek in real life, she says her concept of beauty is much more natural — even more so as she ages. “My mother always demonstrated the importance of aging gracefully,” the actress shared. “I never saw her or my grandmother being afraid of getting old. And so I don’t have that fear.”
