Kelly Ripa Jokes Daughter Lola Is ‘Mortified’ by Everything Ripa & Husband Mark Consuelos Wear

Oh, the fine art of parenting teens! Kelly Ripa’s daughter is embarrassed by her parents’ style, and it’s undoubtedly relatable for anyone with a child between the ages of 11 and, uh, when does that phase end? At 18, Ripa and Mark Consuelos‘ daughter Lola Grace is still “mortified” by her mom and dad — specifically the clothes they deign to wear in public. But hilariously, Ripa revealed that she considers her teen’s abject horror over her fashion choices to be a sign she’s doing something right.

Ripa and Consuelos opened up about the family’s fashion clashing over the weekend while hosting a holiday party for the charity Win NYC. And the teen’s dad was quick to admit Lola knows her stuff. “She’s cool. She’s really cool. She’s always been cool,” the Riverdale actor told People, adding that he and Ripa “have nothing to do with it.” On that note, Ripa chimed in, “We have nothing to do with it literally because she’s mortified by everything we put on.”

In fact, Ripa says that Lola has given up on trying to reform her mom’s style. “She doesn’t even bother with me. She just feels that what I wear is embarrassing and awful,” the Live with Kelly and Ryan co-host joked. “But then I think that means I’ve gotten something right. I don’t think your teenage daughters should like what you’re wearing.”

Lola must not have abandoned all hope in her dad yet, as he admits he occasionally turns to his fashion-forward daughter for pointers. “I do ask her for advice sometimes,” he told People of picking Lola’s brain about outfit pairings. “You know, she’ll let us know if something’s bad.”

While Ripa would clearly agree with the latter half of her husband’s statement (it sounds like she’s on the receiving end of “something’s bad” more often than not), she seems to take it all in stride. The family is famously tight-knit, and that includes a lot of playful joking. Ripa even dishes out a little style criticism to her teenage fashionista from time to time.

Back in August, the busy mom — she and Consuelos also share sons Michael, 22, and Joaquin, 16 — revealed that she wasn’t a fan of Lola’s prom dress. Well, she wasn’t a fan of one specific part. As Ripa told it, the teen worked with NYC-based tailor Raza Wijdan to custom-design her emerald gown. However, despite the fact the parent-approved original design already featured a V-neck and high leg slit, Lola thought the dress needed a little more. Or technically less.

“That’s the prom dress we had made and she had altered behind our back. So that’s why the girls are fully on display,” Ripa deadpanned to O’Connell on the premiere episode of his daytime talk show. “Everybody cam down the stairs together. And I just mean Lola.”
