Family comes first. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have big plans for their first Christmas with son Archie. The couple, who welcomed their son in May, will not be participating in the traditional celebrations with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William, and Kate Middleton. Instead, they will be having “private family time” in Canada.
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are spending private family time in Canada,” a spokesperson for the couple confirmed to Us Weekly. “The decision to base themselves in Canada reflects the importance of this Commonwealth country to them both.”
“The Duke of Sussex has been a frequent visitor to Canada over many years, and it was also home to The Duchess for seven years before she became a member of the Royal Family,” the statement continued. “They are enjoying sharing the warmth of the Canadian people and the beauty of the landscape with their young son.”
For security purposes, no further details have been released about the family-of-three’s whereabouts for the upcoming holiday, though Buckingham Palace previously released a statement which revealed that Meghan and Harry have The Queen’s support.

“Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland,” the statement read. “This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”
As for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, they will be uniting with other members of the royal family at Sandringham. It’s been rumored that their eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, may take part in Queen Elizabeth’s walk to church on Christmas Day.
