Matthew McConaughey is adding a new role to his illustrious resume: matchmaker. The actor is hoping to find a love connection for his mother, Mary Kathlene McCabe, and he’s setting his sights on Hugh Grant’s dad as the eligible bachelor. Indeed, both Hollywood parents are single, and their sons — who star together in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentleman — have a plan to set them up together and see where things might lead from there.
“His father’s 91, my mother’s 88,” McConaughey told Entertainment Tonight. “Yeah, why not? Next week, they’re supposed to meet, and we probably won’t see them for the rest of the night.” Saucy! Indeed, Grant agreed that there could be serious potential there, saying the meetup would likely be “red hot.”
Apparently, the idea for matchmaking the elder generation was Grant’s idea originally, it came up as McConaughey was talking about his family’s plans for the holidays during the duo’s chat with Mashable. “Would your 87-year-old mother like a nice 91-year-old Englishman?” Grant had suggested at that time. “She still married? Your dad still alive?”
McConaughey stepped in to clarify that his mom was single and very ready to mingle: “No, no, pop moved on in ’92. And then her second man of 19 years just moved on two years ago, so she’s single and vital.”
Grant was all over it: “We should set this up!”
