This is eery. If you watched last night’s episode of The Bachelor, chances are you were so consumed by the drama surrounding Victoria F. and her ex-boyfriend Chase Rice that you totally missed the ironic Kobe Bryant reference that occurred. Despite being filmed in late 2019, the episode coincidentally aired on Jan. 27, just 24 hours after the NBA superstar’s untimely death.
During the credits, fans watched as Victoria and Peter Weber play a game of basketball at the amusement park in which they shared their one-on-one date. They head to a basketball court and start shooting hoops, only to realize that the 28-year-old pilot isn’t exactly the strongest basketball player. He makes several attempts to get the ball in the hoop, but to no avail. At one point, Victoria yells “Kobe!” as Peter shoots, much like sports fans would do at the athlete’s basketball games.
Though the moment was brief and easily missed, there were quite a few eagle-eyed Bachelor fans who picked up on it — and we’re shocked by the timing of it all.
“Man. Gotta wonder if the producers even knew this ‘Kobe’ line was in the credits scene,” one fan shared on Twitter along with the clip of the scene.

On tonight’s episode of the Bachelor, Victoria F. said “KOBE” as she and Peter were playing basketball during the end credit scene. Little did anyone know how much that would mean right now💔 @TwoTheFlagrant @barstoolsports#KobeRIP

The former L.A. Lakers star was killed in a fatal helicopter crash on Jan. 26 which took the lives of nine individuals including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna. He is survived by his wife Vanessa Bryant, and three other daughters, Natalia, 17, Bianka, 3, and Capri, 7 months.
In 2018, Bryant revealed that his daughter Gianna had big plans to take over his basketball legacy one day in the future, and had high hopes of making it into the WNBA.
During a resurfaced interview with Jimmy Kimmel, the athlete shared, “The best thing that happens is when we go out and fans will come up to me and she’ll be standing next to me and they’ll be like, ‘You’ve got to have a boy. You and [wife Vanessa Bryant] have to have a boy. You have to have someone to carry on the family tradition, the legacy’ and she’ll be like, ‘Oh hey, I’ve got this.’ And I’m like, ‘Yes you do. You’ve got this.'”
