Amy Schumer just shared the latest update in her IVF journey, and it’s a big one: the results of her first round of treatment. The actress and comedian explained where she and husband Chris Fischer currently stand — keeping it real, in true Schumer fashion. She also took the opportunity to thank other “warrior women” for sharing their own stories with her, which made her feel “empowered and supported” throughout the entire process.
Schumer first revealed she and Fischer had decided to undergo IVF in early January by sharing a heartrending photo of her belly, bruised from injections. Since then, she’s brought fans along for the experience: from having her eggs retrieved to struggling with emotional lows and more. So, it makes sense that she’d want to share the latest news with her followers. She took to Instagram on Saturday, writing, “Hey! So IVF went like this for us. They retrieved 35 eggs from me. Not bad for the old gal right? Then 26 fertilized! Whoah right?”
She continued, explaining that even though 26 fertilized eggs seem impressive, that number doesn’t necessarily mean the IVF will result in a future sibling for her son Gene. “For all of those we got 1 normal embryo from that and 2 low level mosaic (mosaic means there are some abnormal cells but can still lead to a healthy baby),” she said. “So we feel lucky we got 1! But what a drop off right?”

For Schumer, and undoubtedly so many who endure IVF, hearing stories from other women proves to be buoying. “Anyway, I have so appreciated everyone sharing their IVF stories with me. They made me feel empowered and supported,” she wrote, adding, “So many women go through so many rounds of IVF which is painful and mentally grueling. I heard from hundreds of women about their miscarriages and struggles and also many hopeful stories about how after rounds and rounds of IVF, it worked!! It has been really encouraging. Thank you.”
The heartfelt post came just one day after Schumer expressed her gratitude for another very special person in her life: her husband and IVF partner. She kept the Valentine’s Day post meaningful but, well, funny. “Baby without you I’m nothing. I’m your ride or die. Anybody steps to you they’ll get smacked. I love having sex with you too. It’s about twice a week now which is pretty good. Sorry I caught what our son had and had diarrhea on our anniversary and that I’m puking on Valentine’s,” she playfully wrote to Fischer.
Yep, they’re adorable. Here’s hoping the couple’s IVF dreams will come true and the world will one day get another little human with their DNA.
