After 25 years on the air, beloved courtroom program Judge Judy is coming to an end. The final season will air on CBS in 2021, and after that, you’ll have to rely on the quarter-century of reruns to get your fill. But don’t worry: Judge Judy Sheindlin isn’t out of the TV game just yet.
On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Sheindlin gave some insight into why she was parting ways with CBS. “CBS sort of felt, I think, they wanted to optimally utilize the repeats of my program, because now they have 25 years of my reruns,” she told DeGeneres. “What they decided to do was to sell a couple of years worth of reruns.”
This means that, after 2021, Judge Judy episodes will continue to air in the same time slot, but only reruns going forward. “I’ve had a 25-year long marriage with CBS and it’s been successful,” Sheindlin said. “But I’m not tired. So, Judy Justice will be coming out a year later.
DeGeneres pressed her guest for more details, but Sheindlin said she can’t yet reveal which network she’ll be working with on Judy Justice, or how it will differ from Judge Judy. “If you’re not tired, you’re not supposed to stop,” she reminded DeGeneres. “We talked about that the last time we were here. Since then, you’ve made about six new programs.”
There’s no question that Sheindlin is still as camera-ready as she’s ever been — and good for her for refusing to step down a second before she’s ready.
