In fact, Queen Elizabeth II craves a relationship with baby Archie — and she remains hopeful that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will keep communication open enough for her to form a bond with their sweet 9-month-old son. Right now, though, she’s reportedly “heartbroken over the thought” that her great-grandson may grow up without really knowing her.
It’s been a few months since Harry and Meghan made the groundbreaking announcement that they had decided to step back from their duties as senior royals. Rather, they wanted to live a life with more normalcy for their son Archie. This means splitting their time between Canada and the U.K. And while the queen has been outwardly supportive of the couple’s decision, a source says she’s struggling behind-the-scenes.
“The queen would love to have a relationship with Archie, but it’s looking unlikely that will ever happen,” a source told Us Weekly. “The queen’s worst fear is that she may never see Archie again. She’s trying to stay optimistic about this situation and would never stoop to casting any aspersions on Meghan’s character — even after everything that’s happened.”

Accordingly, the 93-year-old monarch is “heartbroken over the thought of not getting to see her great-grandson.”
But for now, it seems as though Harry is committed to maintaining an open dialogue with the rest of the royal family — especially his beloved grandmother. Earlier this week, they reportedly had a “heart-to-heart” upon his first big return visit to the U.K. Although baby Archie wasn’t with him, the toddler was a topic of conversation. “The last thing Elizabeth wants is for Harry to feel estranged from his family, and she made her feelings clear about this in the meeting,” a second source told Us Weekly.
And the queen isn’t the only one in the royal family holding out hope that Harry and Meghan will bring Archie around more. Per Us Weekly’s first insider, Prince William and Duchess Kate have conflicted feelings about Harry and Meghan’s move, but they would very much like to be active in Archie’s life. “The Cambridges respect that Harry and Meghan have a lot going on,” the source said, “But they feel family should come first.”
