After Peter Weber‘s dramatic two-part Bachelor finale, we finally thought we’d gotten the conclusion to his story. He’d proposed to Hannah Ann Sluss, broken it off a month later, and reunited with Madison Prewett at Chris Harrison’s suggestion — making mom Barb very angry in the process. And just two days after he defied his family and America to be with the woman he loved, Peter broke it off. All of which begs the question: was any of this real?!
Both Pilot Pete and Madi posted their own Instagram tributes to the relationship (if we can call it that), and shared their mutual decision to break things off. “Madi and I have mutually decided to not pursue our relationship any further,” Peter wrote. “Believe me this was not easy for either of us to be ok with, but after a lot of honest conversations, we have agreed that this is what makes most sense for the two of us. The love and respect I have for Madi will continue to endure.”

Madison added: “So incredibly thankful for this amazing journey I’ve had the honor of being a part of. I have grown so much and am stronger than I was going in. I have learned the importance of acceptance, forgiveness, and grace. As Peter and I have decided to go our separate ways, I am confident that we will both move in the direction of our purpose and never forget that God has a plan in all things. I will always love and respect him. I am convinced our paths were meant to cross and we are both better because they did.”

I’m not sure what Madison is basing that off of — sure, she has more Instagram followers than she did before, but I’m pretty sure we can all agree that she and Peter will not be going down in history as a fan-favorite couple. In fact, they both would have been way better off if Peter had just stayed with Hannah Ann, for however long he could stand it.
So, why did they decide to air this forced reunion? Was it a requirement from ABC? There’s no way they thought they would be together forever on Tuesday and decided to go their separate ways on Thursday — all the information they needed to know they wouldn’t work out, they’d already learned on air and rejected. So, unless Barb really did get in Peter’s head and convince him to break it off, it seems like Tuesday night was completely and utterly staged — and it’s not a great look for anyone
Another bit of evidence that their reunion wasn’t quite what it seemed? Reality Steve says there are rumors he spent the weekend with Kelley very shortly after his breakup from Hannah Ann — and judging from Barbara’s comments on her Instagrams, she’s still rooting for that couple to make it.

In the end, it seems like Peter was never ready to settle down at all. Disappointing, but not at all surprising from his behavior. Hopefully, Clare Crawley will be sincere enough that we won’t have to stage a finale — but with this show, we never know.
