In a time rife with fear and uncertainty, Queen Elizabeth came through on Sunday with words of reassurance amid the unprecedented coronavirus pandemic. If you watched, you understand just how poignant the monarch’s historic address was — and, as such, it probably won’t surprise you to learn that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were both emotionally affected by the Queen’s words.
If you missed the speech, well, you should remedy that by cueing it up after you’re finished here. But to recap, the 93-year-old UK leader released a rare broadcast over the weekend to address the current health crisis. In the speech, which was watched by 24 million viewers, she exalted healthcare workers on the frontline and called for united “across the globe” in facing the challenges ahead.
According to Harper’s BazaarPrince Harry reached out to his grandmother at the end of last week “to offer his support ahead of the broadcast.” The Sussexes then watched the Queen’s televised address on Sunday from their new home in Los Angeles. Their take? They were “both moved,” a source reportedly close to the couple revealed. “They described it not just as a demonstration of experienced leadership, but also warmth, reassurance, and comfort.”

And those are things we all sorely need right now — royal or otherwise. For Harry, the broadcast could have been especially affecting since he is separated from the rest of his loved ones by such a vast distance. In light of everything going on and specifically Prince Charles’ recent COVID-19 diagnosis, Harry seems to be keeping dialogue with the rest of his royal family more open.
“Meghan told her inner circle of friends that Harry has been communicating with Prince William and the queen on a pretty consistent basis,” an insider told the Daily Mail. “She said this world crisis has actually brought them all closer together, especially Harry and his brother.”
