Before the coronavirus pandemic came along, the world expected one of Hollywood’s most beloved power couples to get hitched this year. Which obviously begs the question: Has Jennifer Lopez’s wedding to Alex Rodriguez been affected by quarantine? The Ellen DeGeneres Show continued on Tuesday with remotely produced episodes — including an “at home” visit with J.Lo to discuss, among other things, the big question mark now hanging over her highly anticipated nuptials.
As DeGeneres playfully pointed out, fans figured that Lopez and her fiancé were ready to tie the knot “any day” before the coronavirus outbreak. The couple had discussed the big day in numerous interviews prior to the pandemic, seeming to hint that they would become husband-and-wife sooner rather than later. So, has that changed? DeGeneres asked, and Lopez didn’t try to hide the fact that her wedding to Rodriguez is currently shrouded in uncertainty.
“Actually, it did affect it a little bit, so we will see what happens now. Honestly, I don’t know what’s going to happen now as far as dates or anything like that,” she revealed. “We’re just kind of in a holding pattern like the rest of the world. Again, it’s something we’re just going to have to wait and see in a few months how this all pans out.”
Although, hey, DeGeneres had a novel idea — since the couple is such a hit on TikTok, maybe they could have a social media wedding. “It’s something to think about,” Lopez said, laughing.
In all seriousness, though, the multi-talented star is focusing on the silver lining of this whole situation. “The whole family is here. We’ve all been shut down for a few weeks now. I have to say, I’ve been so on the run for the last few years that it’s nice to be home. I planned to take a little bit of time off after the whole Super Bowl thing and World of Dance that I just finished filming a few weeks ago. So, it’s been nice so far,” she told DeGeneres.
Still, Lopez understands that feeling may not last forever. For now, though, she’s happy to be home with her future husband and their kids. She elaborated, “It’s a terrible time for all of us — a weird time, a scary time, an anxious time. We don’t know what’s going to happen. But having a reconnection with family and Alex and not having to run around so much is kinda nice, too. So, making the best of it.”
And when the quarantine does finally life, whenever that may be, you can bet Lopez is going to bring her renewed sense of connection with her. “I think the one thing I miss is most is just people. I miss people. I miss hugging ’em and kissing ’em and just being around them,” she said. “You realize with this kind of sudden imposed loss of freedom, in a way, that we can’t see each other, we can’t go places, how much we need each other. How much we need to appreciate that. And that’s what’s been on my mind a lot lately.”
