Kelly Ripa Breaks Down Crying Admitting Her Kids Are Too Scared to Hug Her

Everyone responds to stress and fear differently, and while we’re all (hopefully) home with our loved ones, we’re learning a lot more about how those closest to us react. Unfortunately, everyone’s coping mechanisms aren’t always compatible — an issue Kelly Ripa‘s currently facing at home with her kids Michael, Lola, and Joaquin. Ripa broke down crying during Live with Kelly and Ripa and admitted that she’s on the outs with two of her kids right now because they won’t hug her and all Ripa wants is to hug her loved ones close.

While Ripa’s grateful to be home with husband Mark Consuelos and her three kids, she’s also thinking of her parents, whom she hasn’t seen in weeks. While filming Live with Kelly and Ryan from home, Ripa opened up to her co-star about what was going on at home.

“I’m going to let you in on a little secret: I’m currently not speaking to two of my three kids right now, OK?” Ripa admitted. “I’m not talking to two of them because…just because, we’re all in the same boat together, right? Like, I haven’t gotten to hug my parents…I want to hug my parents. I miss hugging my parents. And my kids, like, won’t hug me. And I’m like, ‘Guys we’ve all been in lockdown together. We’re fine. You can give me a hug. It’s fine.'”

It’s so heartbreaking thinking about kids afraid to hug their own mother because they don’t want to get her sick — but for many across the world, that’s a reality right now. We’re all just trying to take whatever precautions we can to protect those we love, and we hope Ripa reconsiders the silent treatment, even if this is crushing.

In classic TV host form, Ripa managed to make us laugh despite all this: “Anyway, I’m sorry. I don’t know why I’m crying,” she added. “Maybe I’m just going to get my period, who knows? Sorry…did I shout that? Did my inner monologue come out?”

Whether it’s PMS or pandemic woes, Ripa never needs to apologize for showing emotion. In fact, it only makes us love her more.
