We may not be able to gather together in person, but in some ways, our community spirit has never been higher. Parents everywhere are finding ingenious ways to recreate special moments in their kids’ lives while maintaining social distance — and that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, who threw her son Moses a “socially distanced birthday parade” for his 14th birthday. Instead of Moses feeling like he missed out on his original birthday plans, he’s now had a birthday he’ll never forget.
Paltrow documented Moses’ surprise parade on her Instagram story, showing two cars pulling up their drive filled with Moses’ friends. The cars are decorated with balloons, handmade signs, and “happy 14th birthday” written on the window. His friends are sticking their heads out of the sunroof and windows (don’t worry, the cars were barely moving) as they cheer and scream, wave balloons and handoff gifts. It’s a perfect kid’s birthday party — from six feet away.
It’s tough for all of us to see the plans we’d had for coming months fall apart, but even tougher to watch your kids go through milestones and not be able to mark them the way they’d hoped. Right now, we all have to get creative — but parties like this, and Moses coming out in a party hat to watch his friends drive by, give us hope that we’ll always find ways to be there for each other.
We have to hand it to Paltrow — she knocked it out of the park. Happy birthday to Moses!
