A good cry can be cathartic, so let us point you in the direction of Brad Pitt’s HGTV debut on the Property Brothers’ new show, Celebrity IOU. The episode, which premiered last night, features an emotional Pitt gifting his longtime makeup artist Jean Black with a guesthouse renovation — and between Pitt waxing poetic about architecture and the look of pure love on his face when he surprises Black, it’ll melt your gosh darn heart right out of your chest.
To recap, in case you’re unfamiliar with the premise, Celebrity IOU is the latest series from Drew and Jonathan Scott (when do they sleep?!). In it, they help some of Hollywood’s biggest stars give back to unsung heroes in their lives. As you may have guessed, the gift they’re giving is a home makeover. For Pitt, that meant making a grand gesture for his longtime makeup artist, a woman he’s known for 30 years and who has even had to camouflage the tan lines on his butt.
“She’s family,” he told the Scott twins. “We’re like brother and sister. She’s been that person I value so much in my life.” So, when she went away for three weeks, Pitt rolled up his sleeves and got to work with Drew and Jonathan to build the guest-house-garage of her dreams. And when he revealed the results to her, neither could contain their emotion. Spoiler alert? Neither could we.

The two get totally teary as they express their love for one another and embrace, and uh oh, our eyes are starting to sweat again. Because here’s the thing: We all need these moments right now. In a time when social distancing has a lot of us feeling devoid of human contact, we’re living in the warmth of that hug between Black and Pitt. Plus, we learned some things about Pitt along the way that just sort of make us feel warm and fuzzy.
For instance, Jonathan reveals at one point that Pitt has been listening to Black for decades and keeping a mental file of her likes. “These are things he’s been cataloging, listening to Jean, hearing her thoughts, knowing what she likes, and tucking it away for a rainy day like today,” the carpenter explained.
Brad Pitt recruited us to help him surprise his friend and makeup artist of 30 years by renovating her detached garage. We turned her 400-square-foot unit into a show-stopping guest suite, makeup station and storage area. Go #InsideTheDesign here: https://t.co/rQoVWAZ2YJpic.twitter.com/e03xSnLGvd

Then there’s the fact that Pitt made it a point to interact with everyone on set. “He wanted everybody to feel like he was spending some time getting to know them,” Jonathan revealed. “And at the very end, he remembered every single person’s name on the production crew and on the construction crew. He remembered everybody and wanted to make sure that they knew how grateful he was for what was happening. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.”
And one who can help design a damn good garage-guest-house, to boot. “It was such a shit box; this is amazing,” Pitt gushed of the finished space. “It’s fantastic. I’ve been waiting so long to see something happen to this dump.” And as the Scott brothers showed the actor some of their trademark last-minute touches, he couldn’t help but get emotional. “This will mean so much to her. I’m the guy who’s gonna cry on television.”
TBH, this the kind of feel-good content we all crave right now.
