Just when you thought Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell couldn’t get any cuter, along comes actual proof they absolutely can. On Tuesday, Bindi shared a throwback photo of her new husband that reveals a heartwarming connection to her late dad, Steve Irwin — aka “The Crocodile Hunter.” And upon seeing it, we can’t help but feel as though these two were destined to find each other.
Bindi took to Instagram on Tuesday morning to post two photos. The first? A nostalgic snapshot of Powell as a child holding a Crocodile Hunter DVD and flashing a huge (adorable) gap-toothed grin. The second photo shows Powell today, wearing the same Australia Zoo khakis that Steve made famous and, once again, holding up a copy of the Crocodile Hunter DVD. “This makes my heart so happy,” Bindi captioned the then-and-now photos. “My sweetheart husband has watched Dad’s documentaries since he was little.”
Aw! It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 14 years since the conservationist tragically died after being pierced in the heart by a stingray while filming a documentary. Bindi, who was extremely close to her dad, was only 8 years old at the time of his death. So, when she and Powell tied the knot on March 25, they honored her dad (and his longtime hero!) by getting married at the zoo and by lighting a candle in Steve’s memory.

Bindi also gave a nod to her late dad in her vows to Powell on their big day. “My dad used to say that I couldn’t marry anyone unless he could swim across the croc pond first,” she told Powell. “And now, here you are, helping us during our regular crocodile demonstrations. One of your jobs is to jump into the water with our biggest crocs to encourage them home! They say there’s a moment you know when you’ve fallen in love with someone. For me, it was watching you happily jump in the water with a 15-foot crocodile and then tell me how much you enjoyed it. You really are my soulmate.”
If seeing Powell’s enduring devotion to the Irwin family has you feeling nostalgic, too, you’re in luck — as Bindi went on to explain in her post, you can still purchase Crocodile Hunter DVDs. “We ship worldwide and funds raised support the ongoing care of our beautiful animals,” she said.
