In times of darkness, we can always turn to elite lifestyle brand Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow‘s brainchild and an innovative leader in the “candles that smell like vaginas” market. While there are always shockingly decadent items available for sale through the Goop website, Paltrow’s moving into a more accessible sphere while we’re all home on lockdown. As of today, the wellness star has launched the Goop book club, welcoming the Goop community to read along and find a new way to connect and interact virtually about the material. We’ll never say no to a celebrity book club — and we can’t wait to see what reads Paltrow has in store.
Paltrow announced the news on her Instagram story, directing fans to head over the Goop’s profile and check out the full announcement. “It’s official—we’re launching #goopBookClub,” the post read. “📖 We want to connect virtually with all of you (and we hope in person someday soon) about true and fictional stories that open up important conversations.”

The first book we’ll all be reading together is C Pam Zhang’s How Much of These Hills Is Gold, a spellbinding novel about two recently orphaned Chinese siblings trying to survive in the gold rush-era American west.
“It’s a story about trying to belong, trying to locate yourself in history, and trying to understand what it means to be home,” Goop wrote. “It’s a story about family secrets, the responsibilities that weigh us down and buoy us, and the choices people make when they don’t have any. And it’s also a story about our relationship to nature and what’s been edited out, rewritten, or stolen from one culture by another. It stuns.”
We’ll read anything that will sweep us away into another reality right now — and if we get to discuss it with Gwyneth Paltrow after, all the better.
