If you’re going to get home library inspiration from somewhere, where better than the home of the woman who gifted the world with the Harry Potter book series? That’s right — J.K. Rowling just shared a rare glimpse of her home library and, well, it looks like something that could have come straight from Hogwarts. Guess we know what our next DIY quarantine project will be!
The award-winning author took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to reveal how she’s staying busy during the coronavirus pandemic quarantine. “Rearranging books is a very soothing lockdown activity,” Rowling captioned a video she shared of the space. And while you can’t make out the titles on the tomes lining her shelves, Rowling quickly elaborated with a comment. “To the people asking: yes, of course I’ve got Harry Potter books! These aren’t my only bookshelves, they’re simply the ones I decided to arrange by colour during tea breaks.”
The fact that this isn’t her only home library fills us with envy because this one alone proves pretty spectacular. The video pans around to reveal floor-to-ceiling bookshelves spanning almost an entire wall. On them? Rows upon rows (upon rows!) of books, neatly around by the shade of their spines. In the middle of the room, a chic sofa provides the perfect spot for curling up to read. And is it just us, or does the wood paneling near the window seat look like a secret door? We’re going to assume it hides the tunnel to Hogsmeade.

Pale blue-gray walls serve as a backdrop, making the colors of Rowling’s books pop. Fittingly, just above the shelves, a quote from Edmund Spenser’s Faerie Queene is written in gold: “It is the mynd, that maketh good or ill, That maketh wretch or happie, rich or poore.”
Basically, it’s every bibliophile’s dream come true. But rearranging the space by color isn’t the only way Rowling has been keeping herself busy while in self-isolation.
Earlier this month, she announced the launch of Harry Potter at Home — an online platform designed to “cast a banishing charm on boredom” by letting families access Harry Potter-themed content. “Parents, teachers and carers working to keep children amused and interested while we’re on lockdown might need a bit of magic, so I’m delighted to launch HarryPotterAtHome.com,” Rowling wrote at the time of the launch.
Who knows? Maybe now that she’s knocked those two projects out Rowling will revisit the idea of writing more wizarding world books.
