Twilight Is Pulling Us Back with One Last Sequel & We’re Ready to Fall in Love All Over Again

Here’s a sentence I haven’t written in years: Where are my #TeamEdward ladies at?! Years ago, as the final Breaking Dawn movie came out, we accepted that our time with new Twilight material was over and done with — four books and five movies later, they’d served us well. But our vampire queen Stephenie Meyer wasn’t ready to creep into retirement so soon, and just made the jaw-dropping announcement that we’re getting a new Twilight installment this August. Will we be catching up with Edward and Bella, and world’s weirdest couple Jacob and Renesmee? Nope! We’re going back to the beginning, and this time hearing the start of their love story from Edward Cullen’s point of view.

Meyer unveiled a countdown to this dramatic announcement on her website last week, and is now pleased to reveal that the book will be available for sale August 4, 2020. Per publishers Little, Brown and Company, here’s what to expect from the latest installment.

“Meeting beautiful, mysterious Bella is both the most intriguing and unnerving event he has experienced in his long life as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle on his life. How can he let himself fall in love with Bella when he knows that he is endangering her life?”

As we all know, this is the central conflict of the first book — but we’re hearing about it only from Bella’s side, who’s has little to no idea what’s going on in his head (and mostly wants to take his clothes off). Edward, on the other hand, can read everyone’s mind (except Bella’s), so expect lots of that in Midnight Sun, along with (we assume) backstory on his extremely long life before he met Bella.

Honestly, there’s no better time than a pandemic to be sucked back into all-consuming Twilight fandom. Like I said, there are four books and five movies…and only a few months until August 4. Get to work!
