Finally, a bit of good news. After weeks spent unconscious in his battle with COVID-19, Broadway star Nick Cordero is finally awake, much to the relief of his wife Amanda Kloots, baby son Elvis, and thousands of adoring fans. Cordero woke up on Tuesday at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and Kloots — who has been running a viral #WakeUpNick social media campaign — breathlessly let the world know that their prayers had been answered. The road ahead won’t be easy for this family, but this is the hope they needed.
Cordero has been suffering from a severe case of COVID-19 since early March, first requiring a ventilator and extended hospital stay, then having his leg amputated due to complications last month. While he’s now conscious, Kloots shared on Instagram that his recovery is far from over.

“Even closing his eyes, takes it out of him,” she said. “They’re waiting for him to regain strength, of course, time and recovery will help with that and then eventually PT will help him get stronger.”
In the meantime, she’s celebrating all the progress he’s made and the outpouring of support she’s found in strangers across the world. Posting a photo with their baby Elvis, she shared the updated version of the #WakeUpNick campaign: #NickIsWoke. Also pictured: adorable Elvis, offering “kisses for dada” to his mom. Kloots’ positivity and determination through all this has been nothing short of heroic, and our hearts are full of joy that Cordero has taken this massive step forward.
