Ah, the perils of having children who speak their minds! On the one hand, they’re expressing their opinions as they were taught and on the other, well, things could be said at the wrong time — although when you’re the child of a famous comedian the “wrong” time is often the right time. And Tina Fey‘s 8-year-old daughter Penelope crashing her mom’s interview on Late Night With Seth Meyersproves just that.
Penelope surprisingly crashed her interview about Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Interactive Special on Tuesday and even though the mom of two tried to urge her youngest daughter to get out of the spotlight, the little girl did something hilarious instead. And we’re still laughing about it.
“Please hold, there’s a colonial lady walking in,” Fey says, referring to Penelope walking into the room wearing a 16th century-like dress. Before she continues speaking, she asks her daughter what she needs.
“We’re taping a television program now, do you need something?” she asks Penelope while Meyers waits for a response. Instead of responding (or moving), her daughter puts up the “L” for loser sign to her forehead. “You’re calling me a…loser?” the actor asks her daughter. Penelope points at her mom to confirm her suspicions and walks away chuckling to herself. “She’s calling us losers!” Fey tells Meyers. “This means loyalist in colonial times, so that’s on you!” she jokes back while putting an “L” to her own forehead.
Before Fey continues the interview, she runs off to seemingly talk to her daughter. Once she returns, it’s as if nothing happened — everything went back to the segment’s regularly scheduled programming. But this was, of course, the highlight of the interview.
