So much has changed since the last season of Friendsaired in 2004. If you’re nostalgic for Central Perk, now’s your chance to own a piece of history, all for a good cause.
Famed photographer Mark Seliger has teamed up with Red Carpet Advocacy (RAD) and Christie’s auction house to sell 26 iconic photographs of some of the world’s biggest celebrities and donating the proceeds to coronavirus relief organizations. One of the photos is the iconic black-and-white photo of Jennifer Aniston that he took in 1995, shortly after hairstylist Chris McMillan gave her the haircut that will forever be known as “The Rachel.”
In an Instagram post, the actor called Seliger “my dear friend” and explained that her photo’s auction would be raising money for the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics. “100% of sales proceeds of this portrait will go to @NAFClinics, an organization which provides free coronavirus testing and care nationwide to the medically underserved,” she wrote. “Thank you again to Mark for allowing me to be part of this.”

In an interview with InStyle, Seliger remembered the day the duo worked on the photo together like it was yesterday. “We shot a lot of different pictures, but that one really seemed to be the great takeaway,” he said of the portrait, which features a Aniston obscuring her nude body with crossed legs. “It was a breakout time for her, and [the photo] really showed her as this very open, strong person. I think it kind of captured who she was.”
The auction ends on June 12, and the bidding on Aniston’s photo is already on the high end: Someone offered $6,500 for the photo after Christie’s experts appraised it for selling between $5,000 and $7,000. A portrait of former President Barack Obama is estimated to sell for up to $15,000, while a photo of Kurt Cobain taken in 1993 may sell for up to $6,000.
