It’s been a big day in the country music world! In addition to Lady Antebellum shifting their name to Lady A to foster inclusivity, Garth Brooks has announced he’s hitting the road again — only this time, it’s for a tour consisting of concert events at 300 drive-in theaters across North America. Wait, what? You definitely need more details on this exciting new development, and we’ve got them for you.
Speaking to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, Brooks said the idea was born out of an appreciation for how resourceful and adaptive people have become due to the coronavirus pandemic. So, although he’d been approached about doing sort of drive-up (in an open field) concerts in the past, the timing felt right when he was approached recently by a production company pitching drive-in concerts. “This one guy came to me and said, ‘Hey, look, we can put 300 drive-in theaters together if you will create a concert solely for the drive-ins. We can have families jump in the car, get them out on a Saturday night. And it’s pretty cool,” explained Brooks.
Concertgoers can expect a classic, albeit slightly modified, Brooks’ experience. Said Brooks, “They’re going to run it just like a regular concert, but this is going to be all over North America, one night only.”

Bonus? It’s something fun to do for the entire family without potentially compromising anyone’s health. “We are excited because this is a reason to get out of the house, but at the same time you get to follow all the COVID rules from every individual state and you get to have fun and stay within the guidelines of social distancing,” Brooks continued, joking, “We’re calling it ‘social distancing partying.’” To that end, the production company behind the unique concert series has partnered with health experts to ensure safety protocols are met and maintained.
With limited tickets available — only 250 to 300 per-theater — fans will want to be ready to secure theirs when they go on sale via Ticketmaster June 19. They’ll set you back $100 per vehicle, which covers “whatever [the car or truck] can legally hold.” Once the tickets go on sale, fans will be able to find out which drive-ins Brooks will be coming to.
And when those concert dates come, Brooks hopes fans are ready to get a little rowdy from the comfort of their cars and trucks. “I hope people are going to start working on flashing their lights, honking their horns and hopefully rolling down their windows,” he said. “This is a perfect way for us to still get to play music and follow all the rules.”
