Everything had been going smoothly for Tarek El Moussa and Heather Rae Young as they planned their life together. That is until this week, when they hit a big snag. Their wedding ceremony and location is confirmed, but a recent home purchase isn’t going the way they had hoped. The renovation is going to cost them a lot more money than they anticipated.
El Moussa and Young both posted similar photos on their Instagram pages of their stripped-down kitchen with ceilings exposed down to the insulation, dangling wires, and wall-to-wall paper taped to protect their flooring. Even though the couple is impeccably dressed and smiling in the picture, the caption tells a different story.

“The good news is, I filmed today with the beautiful @heatherraeyoung,” writes El Moussa. “The bad news…our new home flooded.”
Young reveals that the flooding caused a lot of damage to their first home purchase together. “Wellllllll we haven’t had the best of luck with our new home. We bought it and decided to remodel and now it looks like a war zone,” the Selling Sunset star says. “We had some major flooding and water got everywhere and they had to rip up the floors, ceiling and tons of other stuff!! And we are super super behind!!!”
El Moussa admits the project is “way behind schedule and way over budget.” He even asks his followers to share their “home improvement horror stories.” Despite the unexpected turn of events, the house flipper seems to be weathering the bad news fairly well joking that “when life gives you lemons you smile and make margaritas! I’m not letting this one get me down!”
Young is also looking on the bright side of this wet mess because the duo is finally filming together for El Moussa’s show, Flipping 101. Fans will get to see this bump in the road — and all of the flooding — on the show as the couple starts their lives together.
But no one should think this first stressful test of their relationship is going to get the couple down or interfere with any wedding plans. Young knows in the end that through all of the headaches with her new home, she’s keeping her “eye on the prize.” The prize? “A perfect ocean view!!”
