Cindy Crawford’s Daughter Kaia Gerber Looks So Much Like Her Mom in These Gorgeous New Vogue Photos

Being the daughter of one of the most famous supermodels in the world has to bring some pressure to the table, but Kaia Gerber is asserting herself in her own way, thank you very much. The 19-year-old model, who is a dead ringer for her mom, Cindy Crawford, is proving she’s ready to make her mark, not just with her stunning looks, but by using her powerful voice in the June/July 2021 issue of Vogue.

Gerber is finding that she’s comfortable sharing her opinions now that she’s well-established in her career, but she does note the sexism that exists in the entertainment industry, Instead of sitting by and letting it happen, she’s starting to take charge. “But when I got a little older, I started to wait for someone, especially in interviews, to ask me something other than ‘What are three items in your purse?’ I was like, ‘You’re not asking Adam Driver that, right?’ I was waiting to be invited to speak,” she told the publication. “Eventually I invited myself. And that was a really freeing feeling.”

With that freedom comes the reality of being in the modeling world at a vulnerable age, which sometimes got her into situations that now look unseemly. She discovered that she “tended to date older people” (we can’t help but think back to her relationship with Pete Davidson) because that’s who she was hanging out with. She admitted, “And I got put in situations where one day I’d wake up and be like, How did I get here? I have no idea what I’m doing, and I need help. And being able to ask for that help was amazing. That’s what real growing up means, not being afraid to ask.”

Crawford, and dad Rande Gerber, were always a phone call away and they would often urge her to come home if she felt uncomfortable. Looking back on it, the young model reflects, “At the time I thought I was fine, but now I look back to 16-year-old Kaia and I’m like, ‘Come home!’ ” Her mom even acknowledges that they believe they “kind of skated through that period” even though she grew up in the same industry and knew how dangerous it could be.

The couple put a lot of trust and faith into their talented daughter and realize she has come shining through despite some of the challenges she’s faced. “But you just have to let your kids fly and be there to pick them up if they fall,” Crawford shared with Vogue. “My husband, who has a great perspective, always tells me, ‘Cindy, this too shall pass.’ ”

Vogue’s June/July 2021 issue is available on newsstands nationwide on June 1st.
