Will we ever stop marveling at the amazing way Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe‘s DNA replicated into their into lookalike kids Ava and Deacon? Probably not, because the doppelgänger pics keep on coming. Case in point: Yesterday’s Instagram post from Witherspoon that had fans doing a double take on whether she was with her son or a circa 1999 time-traveling version of his dad.
Witherspoon shared a sweet photo of herself and her 17-year-old son, with his arm wrapped around her. Between Witherspoon’s large floppy hat and blue-and-white checkered dress, Deacon’s casual-cool white T-shirt and jacket, and the groovy Instagram filter, the image gave some album cover vibes, so we can see why this is how The Morning Show actress and producer wrote this as the caption:
“Making sure we get some good photo options incase [sic] we ever need an album cover for the mother x son band I’m trying to convince @Deaconphillippe to start with me,” she wrote, with a microphone emoji.

Fans were quick to point out how much Deacon looked like his dad, who recently starred in Big Sky. And if you’re not convinced, compare Deacon with this throwback photo Phillippe shared of his first headshot. Must be so weird to look at your kid and see a former version of yourself, right?!

Reese and Ryan married in 1999 after meeting as co-stars on the set of Cruel Intentions but divorced in 2008. Their daughter, Ava, 21, was born the year they married, and the couple welcomed Deacon in 2003. In 2011, Witherspoon married talent agent Jim Toth with whom she has an 8-year-old son, Tennessee, and the blended family is close.
Whether Witherspoon is joking about making a record with her model son, who recently walked in his first fashion show for Prada, Deacon is already in the music business. In July 2020, he released a debut single, “Long Run,” which his mom immediately called “the song of the summer.” And we won’t lie — the idea of Witherspoon featuring on one of his songs is hard to pass up.
