From what fans have gleaned so far, it looks like Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez‘s rekindled romance is still going strong. The two megastars, who seemingly got back together following a secluded trip to Montana in May, have been taking their relationship step-by-step — even if those steps may feel more like leaps to some. But there’s one element of their newfound romance that seems like a huge part of what’s making their relationship work this time around, and it’s their ability to be equal, independent participants in their romantic partnership.
According to a new report from an Entertainment Tonight source, the couple is still spending “all of their free time together and making each other a priority.”
“J.Lo falls hard and has certainly done the same with Ben again this time around,” a source shared with the outlet. “Ben is a guy’s guy and does his own thing, which J.Lo loves.”
“He has his own life and is famous in a different way than she is and is not trying to compete with her by any means,” the source continued. “They just support and love each other.”

This latest reported insight into the couple’s romance really sheds light on what Lopez values in this iteration of her relationship with Affleck. A lot has changed since their November 2002 – January 2004 engagement, when Affleck and Lopez’s primary problem was the constant media attention that dogged their relationship.
“Back in the day, Ben broke up with J.Lo because he was overwhelmed by the constant media attention and fame that the relationship brought, but now they are in an amazing place and have really learned what works for them as a couple,” ET’s source reiterated.
Following their split, Affleck was married to Jennifer Garner and had three children, while Lopez went on to marry Marc Anthony, with whom she shares her 13-year-old twins. Unlike her previous relationship with Alex Rodriguez, Lopez doesn’t seem determined to put her romance front and center in any other aspects of her life than his role making her happy. With Rodriguez, however, the singer not only leaned more and more into their status as a celebrity couple, but even went in on different business ventures with her former fiancé — which has us thinking of the former MLB player when this source says Lopez loves how Affleck “has his own life.”
Now that she’s back with Affleck, it seems like Lopez really wants to keep the details of her renewed romance as private as possible. Both Lopez and Affleck are in completely different places in life than they were as burgeoning Hollywood heavyweights in the early aughts. Now, it seems that the two can prioritize each other while feeling confident and assured in their own work and personal goals.
