It’s hard to believe it’s been 26 years since Princess Diana passed away in a catastrophic car crash after being chased by the paparazzi in Paris. While many royal fans think of how different the royal family would have been if she was still alive today, there’s one expert who is marveling about her legacy and how it endures beyond her 36 years on earth.
Christopher Andersen, author of The King: The Life of Charles III, told Fox News Digital that he believes the then-Princess of Wales is still “the most popular royal of all time.” That news may not please King Charles III or Queen Camilla, but the writer is confident that she saved the royal family from a sad demise. “Had Diana not entered the picture when she did, I can’t imagine that we would care half as much about the royal family,” he noted. “She breathed new life into what was becoming a musty and outdated monarchy and continues to even today.”
Andersen thinks Diana would have been “thrilled” that her beloved sons “fell in love with and married two dynamic and fascinating young women.” She would have loved Kate Middleton for fulfilling “every wish Diana might have had for a daughter-in-law destined to become queen.” And Diana probably would have identified “strongly” with Meghan Markle “as a fellow outsider” — it’s not easy finding your way in the royal family. It’s hard not to think that the family feud probably wouldn’t have happened either because Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom would have been there to unify them.
There might have been more support for the Sussexes’ exit and the anti-monarchists’ cries to dismantle the royal family structure might not resonate as loudly if Princess Diana was still alive. That one moment in time changed the trajectory of everyone at the palace and cemented Princess Diana’s superstar legacy forever.
