Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington are opening up about a career-altering moment in a new docuseries coming to Apple TV+. An exciting trailer for The Super Models was released on Wednesday, September 6 and it looks like the iconic models are going to get candid about the achievements that shaped their careers.

Among the many career-defining moments discussed by the women lies one that will go down in pop culture history — their appearance in George Michael’s “Freedom! 90” music video. “We get this phone call,” Campbell, 53, says in the newly released trailer. “George Michael wants to shoot us in his video.” Turlington, 54, jumps in to add, “We made a decision,” before each of the other women recalled agreeing to star in Michael’s video. Though the models were already at the height of their success, the music cast them into mainstream fame and defined a path for them off the runway.

“Everything changed,” Turlington follows up. “You can start to call the shots and be an active participant in your career.” Michael’s music video was, at the time, a daring critique on the obsession with physical beauty that had arisen in the music industry and in mainstream media in general. Michael didn’t appear in the video and, instead, cast the four women to do his role of lip-syncing.

Turlington previously reflected on the impact of the video in a 2020 interview with her fellow co-star John Pearson’s website, Mr Feelgood. “I think the video captures everyone involved at critical junctures in our lives and careers, which none of us could have possibly grasped in the moment, except for George maybe,” Turlington reminisced. The song was an instant classic. Whenever it gets played in a room I am in, I feel eyes turn on me.”

As shared in a statement timed to the release of the new The Super Models trailer, Apple TV+ promises to deliver “unprecedented access to the models takes viewers behind the camera and beyond the catwalk, revealing how they dominated the elite modeling world while illuminating a bond that single-handedly shifted the power dynamic of an entire industry.”

The four-part docuseries will feature commentary from some of the most influential names in the fashion industry including Grace Coddington, Edward Enniful, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and Michael Kors. A synopsis for the show says, “The Super Models travels back to the 1980s, when four women from different corners of the world united in New York. Already forces in their own right, the gravitas they achieved by coming together transcended the industry itself.”
