The judge in Kevin Costner‘s divorce case has settled the child support disagreement, but that doesn’t end the 68-year-old actor’s courtroom battle with estranged wife Christine Baumgartner. Sources close to the former couple are revealing that the fight has just begun.
Costner had two recent wins in the divorce proceeding with a lowered monthly amount for child support and a confirmation from the judge that the 2004 prenuptial agreement is enforceable. Now, the “main showdown” is expected to begin, according to Us Weekly insiders. They will be arguing over the prenup in a trial that is set to begin on Nov. 27. “Kevin knows Christine is far from done,” the source explained. “He’s relieved that step one has [gone his way]… but Christine is sure as hell not giving up on the overall war.”
With Baumgartner wanting to get a larger amount of alimony than what her prenup stipulated, Costner’s “biggest concern” is the possibility that he could “run out of money.” The Yellowstone star is financing a four-part major motion picture called Horizon, and he’s already mortgaged his $145 million Carpinteria, California home to help fund the project. While Costner is wealthy, he isn’t as liquid as he probably should be — and the divorce adds a very complicated layer to his financial situation.
But so far, Costner is feeling confident that the divorce proceedings will continue to favor his side. “Kevin’s feeling vindicated and cautiously optimistic that he’s turned the corner in this ordeal,” his pal added. Baumgartner’s “outlandish demands infuriated him to no end” and that’s why he decided to “fight back hard for what’s fair.” On the flip side, the source noted that “it’s tough” for Baumgartner because she’s “being painted as this ungrateful gold digger.” She is a mom of three who worked inside the home for their entire marriage, and it’s why she’s bracing for a long court battle to fight “for what she believes is fair.” In the end, though, does anyone really win?
