If there’s one thing anyone can say about the Kennedy family, it’s that they hold strong views and hold firmly onto them. Jackie Kennedy‘s grandson, Jack Schlossberg, refused to waver on his opinion of controversial cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during a visit to the Today Show — and he might not be the only Kennedy who is critical of him.
Savannah Guthrie asked Schlossberg if he was “glad” that he endorsed Joe Biden for president instead of his relative, who has leaned into conspiracy theories and an anti-vaccine stance that has rubbed some people the wrong way. “I’m very glad I did it,” he responded. “I stand by what I said in my video. I love my family and I‘m very proud of our legacy of public service, especially my mom.” He then praised his mother, Caroline Kennedy, who was sitting next to him of her work as the Ambassador to Australia.
But oh, the 30-year-old lawyer wasn’t done. He continued, “But I think Joe Biden is a fantastic president, I think on every issue from the economy, healthcare, climate change, civil rights — his record speaks for itself.” Guthrie called Schlossberg’s words “harsh” for accusing RFK Jr. for “using Camelot” and “abusing the family name.” That terse exchange didn’t deter him at all. He doubled down on his support for Joe Biden and reminded viewers not “to be distracted” by the noise, stick to the issues. He doesn’t need to relive the moment his called RFK Jr’s candidacy an “embarrassment.”
Guthrie then wanted the tea from Caroline, wondering if the situation was “complicated” after her son made that video slamming his cousin. She replied with a sly smile, “Not complicated. I know what I think. I know what Jack thinks, I know what Bobby Kennedy thinks, and so, it’s not complicated.” Her grin got even bigger with a knowing look that made the audience realize she is going to cast her vote for Joe Biden. Family politics is a tough business, folks.
