Earlier this year, in April, Kim Kardashian surprised everyone when she was announced as the newest cast member of American Horror Story: Delicate. And although Kardashian has proved she can wear a multitude of different hats through the years, like being a mom, a businesswoman and a reality TV star, being an actress was quite a change.
So, of course, her long-awaited acting debut was going to cause quite a stir. On Sept 20, the first episode of the show was released and, to much of the viewers’ surprise, Kardashian seemed to exceed expectations.
“Hold on because why is Kim Kardashian eating this role[?]” wrote one user on X (formerly known as Twitter. “Give Kim Kardashian an Academy Award immediately,” wrote another. “Kim Kardashian is kinda slaying in this new American Horror Storyepisode,” wrote another user. “I was impressed by Kim Kardashian,” echoed another.
On the show, the mom of four plays Siobhan, a high-power publicist who represents Anna Victoria Alcott (played by Emma Roberts), an A-list actress with two main goals: to win an Oscar and to have a baby with her husband Dex Harding (Matt Czuchry).
In a new teaser for the series, which is inspired by Rosemary’s Baby, Kardashian opened up about her deep dive into acting. “Anytime you try something, you just have to have the intention of growing and challenging yourself,” The Kardashians star said. “Then you just kind of release and have fun.”
Luckily for Kardashian, viewers weren’t the only people impressed with her time onscreen. “She plays a dead-on Type A entertainment industry type who boosts her self-doubting client, telling her that her life and career are great,” Deadline wrote in their review. “You feel like Kim is channeling her mom-anager Kris Jenner in an homage. She’s perfect for the part.”
“Siobhan is a good role for her because she’s mostly there to be an aggressive publicist who is looking out for Anna as both her client and best friend,” wrote Decider. “She can spew pop culture references with some credibility, and she’s a good counterweight to Roberts’ constantly-scared Anna.”
“Kardashian is far and away the best part of AHS: Delicate,” wrote Daily Beast. “Her affected line readings and familiar face might make it hard to take the show completely seriously, but that’s exactly what AHS needs: a season that has given up on trying to be anything more than good, campy fun.” We can’t wait to watch!
