When John F. Kennedy Jr. was alive, he seemed like a tall, dark, and handsome man who never seemed to get phased by anything. Sure, being a Kennedy had its perks, and we’re sure he used all of them whenever he could. However, an ex of his detailed how he handled certain issues, and how he’d instantly be afraid to tell his “mummy” Jackie Kennedy.
John Jr.’s ex-girlfriend Christina Haag released a memoir back in the early 2000s entitled Come to the Edge, and it detailed nearly everything in their five-year relationship. From how they met to how he handled crisis, it was all in there. Fast forward to today, and people are noting one instance Haag wrote in her memoir on how John Jr was afraid and didn’t want to talk to Jackie.
“I saw John, my captain: John, who was never afraid. Unable to be still, he paced the beach, muttering something, his eyes wide and to the ground. ‘Don’t tell Mummy, don’t tell Mummy,’ he repeated like a mantra to no one,” she wrote, chronicling the time he skidded their kayak into a boulder. “Mummy wasn’t there, and he wasn’t talking to me. I could have passed my hand in front of his eyes and he would not have blinked. It was then that the danger we had been in really hit me. John was afraid.”
There have been many reports about John Jr. and Jackie mother-son bond, with some saying he’d dictate his relationships based on what she said and how she’d vet his girlfriends. But this personal account shed a whole new light on their relationship.
Now, for those who don’t know, John Jr and Haag were college sweethearts. They met in NYC and quickly bonded, especially since their apartments were mere blocks away from one another. They traveled the world together, but ended up splitting after five years.
