Donald Trump has always spoken his mind — it is what has served him well with his voter base and hurt him when it comes to his opponents. He’s rarely faced consequences for his rants and raves, but Judge Arthur Engoron just showed him what happens when you double-cross him or his judicial staff in the New York civil fraud case.

Judge Engoron wasn’t messing around after he slapped Donald Trump with a gag order after personally attacking a member of his staff. “Personal attacks on members on my court staff are unacceptable, inappropriate, and I won’t tolerate it [in my courtroom],” the judge stated. And just in case anyone thinks this order was for Donald Trump and Donald Trump alone, Judge Engoron noted that everyone in the courtroom should “consider this a gag order for all parties from posting about any members of my staff.” Fair enough.

So what exactly did Donald Trump do to draw the ire of the judge? Well, he let his temper get the best of him on Truth Social. He wrote, “Schumer’s girlfriend, Alison R. Greenfield, is running this case against me. How disgraceful! This case should be dismissed immediately!!” The former president didn’t just offer his thoughts in writing, though, he also included a photo of Greenfield and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer as “proof” that they were involved in a romantic relationship, but they are not a couple — now or ever.

Judge Engoron demanded that the social media post be deleted, and Donald Trump followed through on that order. However, it might be a wake-up call to the former president that this judge is not messing around — and with no jury trial — his fate is in the hands of the person whom he continues to irritate. It might not be the best legal strategy.
