It has been nine years since Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin redefined celebrity divorces by announcing their “conscious uncoupling” in 2014 in a statement that claimed the former couple were prioritizing friendship and co-parenting over their romantic relationship. “In many ways we are closer than we have ever been,” the wrote at the time.
Since then the Goop founder and Coldplay frontman have been refreshingly undramatic in their breakup and in the parenting of their two children, Apple, 19, and Moses, 17. Even now that Paltrow, 51, and Martin, 46, have moved on with other people, the exes are as cordial as ever.
In fact, Paltrow recently revealed that she has formed a friendship with actress Dakota Johnson who has been dating her ex since 2017.
“We’re actually very good friends. I love her so much,” Paltrow gushed in a Q&A on her Instagram story on October 5 calling the Cha Cha Real Smooth star, 34, “an adorable, wonderful person.”
Paltrow and Johnson have been seen together on a number of occasions, including on family trips with Martin and their kids. Paltrow, who has been married to Brad Falchuk since 2018, even had a similar stance about Johnson in an Instagram Q&A last year. Responding to a fan who asked whether she “loves” Johnson, Paltrow replied, “Very much.”
Paltrow has always be open about her and Martin’s efforts to keep their relationship strong even in the face of their divorce. She told Marie Claire in 2015, “we’re very, very close, and it’s so nice. I feel like it’s, in a way, the relationship we were meant to have.”
In 2019, a source told Us Weekly that the two couples are on great terms and are friends. “It’s not without effort and having to put feelings aside from time to time. They genuinely enjoy being together and there’s a lot of love for one another on all sides,” the insider said. “Gwyneth loves Dakota, and vice versa. She really likes her and who she is as a person.”
